Word of the Week: Overlooked

Fall is a time for kickoffs (and no, I’m not talking about football). School kicks off again. With vacations over, new seasons of productivity kick off at work. Sports teams and evening commitments all seem to kick off at the same time too.

Church is no different. Fall is a time for kickoffs. Small groups, Foundations, and Crossroads all kick off again in the fall. With this flurry of revived activity, I realize how many small things I overlook. Announcements I forget to make. Papers I forget to print. Emails I forget to send. All little things I overlook – but all important nonetheless.

When I reflect on how many things I overlook, I’m thankful for a God who overlooks nothing. In Matthew 6:30, Jesus asks the question, “But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?” God doesn’t overlook one blade of grass. Neither will he overlook you.

Wherever you find yourself right now, God sees you. He sees you in your grief and sickness. He sees you in your joy and success. No detail is too small for his careful attention. No facet goes unnoticed. We rest in the hands of a God who overlooks nothing and is preparing for us the abundant life down to the very last detail.

So, resting under such careful attention, what are we so anxious about?
