Word of the Week

Word of the Week: Bearings

“We need to get our bearings.”  The term seems to have its origin in navigation.  Even as late as the 20th century celestial navigation was used.  By finding a star or two, a person at sea (or in the air) could figure out where they were on the earth.  To get where you are going, you need to first know where you are.

Now “losing your bearings” or “finding your bearings” is often a metaphor for life in some way.  It means that we have lost our way or must find our way.

We are at a great place in our history as a church.  Our elders have decided to take some time to find our bearings.  We are in a guided planning process to help us both figure out where we are right now, and to come together as leaders on where we want to be in five years, and to agree on the important steps along the way.  We think we have our bearings but we are double checking.  We have some ideas about the future, but are pausing to listen to the Lord.  An email survey was recently sent to Grace members to gather more information. If you received one, please be sure to complete it by Friday the 20th so we can use your feedback to help us in this process. We desire your faithful prayer for the Lord to guide this whole process.  Soon, by God’s grace, we will be on our way, with clearer bearings!

In Him,

Don
