Word of the Week

Word of the Week: Mad

“I’m mad about Jesus.”  This past Sunday I spoke about the man who had been a Hindu priest who came to faith in Jesus who exclaimed, “I’m mad about Jesus!”  Isn’t that a funny way to put it?  Without context it could mean different things.  I have met some angry Christians who were incensed about so many things.  They were mad about other Christians’ bad theology.  They were angry that our ideas are losing in the public square.  They were mad, and it seemed to have something to do with Jesus.  The main thing I noticed about them was their anger.  I’m guessing those outside the faith noticed that as well.

Then there is the other use of “mad”.  “I’m madly in love with her.”  “He’s mad about football.”  It’s an alternative way to use the word “mad”.  The former Hindu priest was mad about Jesus because he came to know Him and experienced the joy of eternal life that starts now.  He willingly accepted the rejection of his town because he was mad about Jesus in this second way.

Think about it.  Are you mad about Jesus?  And if so, how?

Have a great week.  See you Sunday for some more Stories of Jesus.
