Word of the Week

Word of the Week: Preach

As we go through Galatians, one of the skills of spiritual health we have learned is rehearsing the truths of the gospel to ourselves and to others.  Did you pick up on that?  We’ve been reminding you of the things that are true of you in Christ.  A good summary of it was here (Heidelberg Catechism #60):

60 Q. How are you righteous before God?

A. Only by true faith in Jesus Christ. Even though my conscience accuses me of having grievously sinned against all God’s commandments, of never having kept any of them, and of still being inclined toward all evil, nevertheless, without any merit of my own, out of sheer grace, God grants and credits to me the perfect satisfaction, righteousness, and holiness of Christ, as if I had never sinned nor been a sinner, and as if I had been as perfectly obedient as Christ was obedient for me. All I need to do is accept this gift with a believing heart.

While nobody likes someone who is “preachy”, it is a healthy practice to “preach the gospel to yourself” daily.  That is to say, meditate upon and reflect upon the things that God says about you.  Preach it!  And, preach it to one another.  We sometimes aren’t good at “picking the sermons” for our own hearts.  We need a caring friend to speak these words to us. Preach the good news to yourself and to others!

So, the word of the week is PREACH!

In Him,
