Worship!

September 28, 2017
Don Ward
Five of us from Grace were at a worship conference called Sing 17 last week in Nashville, Tennessee. Karen Sawyer, Bruns Varaksa, Sean Smith, Caron Ward and Don Ward attended for our church. If you have sung the modern hymn, In Christ Alone, you have encountered the Getty Music ministry. Over 4,000 pastors, worship leaders, musicians and church leaders from around the globe gathered at the massive Brentwood Baptist Church for several days of worship and seminars. The highlight of the conference was the Monday night worship in the famous Grand ...

Word of the Week

Word of the Week: Astounding Each week members have been adding to our church prayer list the names of friends they are inviting for our October 8 celebration. I had missed Tuesday prayer the last few weeks for travel. This week we had about 35 different names, and that didn’t include a few others. We prayed together for all of them by name. I also learned that a number of people are coming to Christianity Explored to learn more about Jesus, and get their questions answered. I felt a sense of wonder and awe. I had a moment of divine wonder ...

Biblical Justice

September 20, 2017
Sean Smith
As the topic of justice has become so pressing in our culture today, we as Christians must look at each situation through a biblical viewpoint. The meaning of justice is found all throughout the Bible and it is important that we get back to striving for justice in this way. The Bible makes it clear that the Lord has a huge heart for justice. This is not something that is just a side part of Him, but is a central part of the character of God. The Lord calls us to love the people who are oppressed and to work towards helping them – because ...

Word of the Week

Word of the Week: Overlooked Fall is a time for kickoffs (and no, I’m not talking about football). School kicks off again. With vacations over, new seasons of productivity kick off at work. Sports teams and evening commitments all seem to kick off at the same time too. Church is no different. Fall is a time for kickoffs. Small groups, Foundations, and Crossroads all kick off again in the fall. With this flurry of revived activity, I realize how many small things I overlook. Announcements I forget to make. Papers I forget to print. Emails ...

Serving Locally

I have a friend who works for a construction company that builds custom homes. Specifically, his job is to oversee all the various contractors and vendors involved, each of which is responsible for a different piece of the project. It’s his job to keep track of all the different steps involved until the house is complete. He makes sure the plan on paper becomes reality. I remember once he took me to one of his worksites and showed me around the “house.” I put house in quotation marks because it was still months away from being finished. At ...

Word of the Week

Word of the Week: Deluge I wonder how Noah felt? What an unusual season in our country’s history! Two incredible storms hit within a few weeks of one another! A 1000-year flood hits large portions of Texas, and a massive hurricane swamps many parts of Florida after leveling parts of the Caribbean.  What are we to do? Can you help in some way? With so many needs financially, pray and consider how to help. A personal connection may be wise. If you’ve been to an island that has been hurt, donate to Samaritan’s Purse or a similar organization ...

Forging Men

September 07, 2017
Don Ward
Grace has a goal regarding men’s ministry: Develop a comprehensive strategy and provide leadership to produce a men's ministry that forges bonds of brotherhood and trains men to be effective leaders in the home, church and community It’s safe to say that this particular goal reflects something with which our leaders were not satisfied. We were happy with the direction of women’s ministry, but weren’t happy with the effectiveness of our ministry uniquely designed for men. Many churches share this frustration. Men’s ministry can be very ...

Word of the Week: Anticipation It’s been so very busy lately as our whole church staff gets ready for the restart of the 2-service format and our weekly Foundations time. Add into the mix a middle school retreat (MODGNIK) and a men’s retreat, and we will all need another Labor Day to recover. Can’t wait to be back at it again though! This fall, we will be focusing on inviting a friend to worship with us on October 8th - a Sunday where we treasure the value of one life to God. Do you have some friends in mind? Don
