5 Ways to Get the Most out of Foundations

August 28, 2015

For 40 weeks of the year GCC runs a Sunday morning program called Foundations. We’re going beyond the traditional idea of “Sunday School” during this hour (9:15 to 10:15am) each week. We work hard to actually model Discipleship through Relationship in the classes themselves. We consider three areas in order to do this. First, we consider the Regular Rhythm of the hour. We pack a lot into one hour in order to invite you to engage right then with the content being presented. There are several elements in order to appeal to different ...

Word of the Week: Bustle! The first Sunday after school is back in session is always an exciting one at Grace.  Foundations is back, the crowd is back at church, and things move back up to full speed.  Cara and Barbara were working very hard last week to make the rooms beautiful for Foundations and Children’s Church.  Stacey had her youth team ready to go for their kick off of middle school and high school Foundations.  The photographic evidence of the absolute zaniness of the first Crossroads youth night of the 2015-2016 school year is ...

Fall Charge Up!

Fall is an exciting time of the year at every church.  It feels a little bit like resurrection.  Things are a bit slow in the summer as people take advantage of the good weather and freedom of having children out of school to see family and enjoy time together.  Then as the children go back to school we see families coming back to church.  Usually we see new families who have moved into the neighborhood coming to see what GCC is all about. It is energizing all of us here at Grace. This Sunday is the week when most of our kids are back in ...

Word of the week: Good Reads One of the great things about a sabbatical is all the time to read great books.  I want to recommend one I did read, and one I didn’t get to.  Our church library and our local library both have copies of Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy by Eric Metaxas.  It is a well-written and understandable biography of this famous German pastor who opposed the Nazis and gave his life to stand for truth.  It was a very accessible read, full of good content. Someone came up and asked about books about Martin Luther.  ...

I'm Back, What Happened and Now What?

I was blessed and privileged to be back at GCC on Sunday August 9 and enjoyed preaching on the passion of discipleship.  Since it is part of a three sermon series, let me encourage you to look it up and listen to it!  It may answer some obvious questions you may have about moving forward together. My sabbatical was a wonderful time of refreshment and provided an invigorating change of pace.  As many of you know, a center piece of the time was the two weeks which Anna, Caron and I spent in Japan.  The two weeks there was exhausting in a good ...

Word of the Week: Get ready! Hi Gracians- get ready!  Foundations is coming back in a few weeks and this is a splendid opportunity for us all to grow in our love for Christ!  It restarts August 23.  As mentioned in Sunday’s sermon, we are all being formed spiritually all the time.  Sometimes it’s accidental, which is usually like a car accident - a bad thing.  We have substantial opportunities for you and your family to grow - don’t miss out for some lesser thing.  As the well-known quote from Jerry Maguire states, “Help me help you!” ...

Making Time for Community

August 07, 2015
Cara Kidd
Have you ever wondered what your life would look like without your ‘people’? You know, the friends and family that support you, love you and keep you going. We are created for community and we have those people or need those people for a reason. There are many verses in the Bible that talk about what it looks like to have others in deep community with us: Hebrews 10:24- 25 24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, ...
