Our Officers

Jeff Deal

Elder

Jeff has faithfully served at Grace since it was first planted, and he and his wife, Jennifer, were on the organizing team. He was GCC's first ruling elder, and he currently leads a small group. Jeff and Jennifer have three daughters and one son, and they enjoy encouraging them in their academic and athletic endeavors. Jeff also serves as a board adviser to the Pregnancy Centers of Central Virginia, and he enjoys taking long walks with his wife.

Peter Edwards

Elder

Peter has been at Grace since 2003, he has served as an Elder since 2010. He and his wife Marcy have two children. Peter enjoys mountain biking, tennis, hiking, computer programming, and generally spending time outdoors. While serving as elder, Peter has seen how God grows us the most through the challenges that we all face on a daily basis.

Jim Morton

Elder

Jim and his wife Michelle (who serves Grace as our treasurer) have been a part of GCC since 1999. Jim became an elder in 2001. Jim enjoys playing music, golf, poker, and working with technology. Through serving on both the worship team and the session, Jim has seen how God is always there for us even when we’re not aware of it, and he has become more keenly aware of how God has always been at work in his life.

Sean Shanks

Elder

Sean Shanks has been at Grace since 1997 and became an elder in 2014. He and his wife Jen have three children. Sean enjoys spending time with his family, being part of an adult small group, and leading a high school guys' small group. As a leader, Sean has had the privilege of seeing God move in the hearts and minds of the youth of Grace while walking beside these young men and their families as they move through high school into adulthood.

Jimmy Wood

Elder (sabbatical)

Jimmy has been at Grace since 2004, and became an elder in 2014. He has degrees in engineering from Virginia Tech and UVA, and he enjoys music, reading, and being outdoors with his family.  Jimmy and his wife Leslie have two children at home and a Golden Retriever. They both serve on the worship team, and Jimmy has always felt called to help the people of GCC worship well in all areas of life. "Peter made it farther than I would have walking on the water.  I spend too much time staring at the waves instead of focusing on Jesus.  He is teaching me how to keep my eyes focused on Him and to enjoy Him in the gifts He gives!"

Win Wood

Elder

Win has been an elder at Grace since 2006. He enjoys soccer, reading, and spending time with his family. He has been married for 27 years to his best friend Michele. They have three sons, one daughter, and three cats.  Win has seen God's faithfulness in walking through life's many hardships, and he is very thankful for the love and support of the family of God at GCC.

Aaron Andreson

Deacon

Aaron Andreson has been attending Grace since the first service in 1997 and became a deacon in 2014.  Aaron and his wife Michele have two daughters, Madeline and Ellie. On his time off, he enjoys spending time with family, hiking, golfing, swimming with his kids, or anything else that will get him outdoors. He has served at Grace on the setup team, worship team, and is currently leading a youth small group. God has richly blessed Aaron through close relationships at Grace and he is continually amazed by God’s faithfulness and love for us.

Steve Hill

Deacon

Steve has been attending GCC since it was a church plant that met in Sutherland Middle School. Steve and his wife, Linda, have two adult children, both adopted from Honduras.  Steve was one of the first deacons elected at Grace and has served in areas of administration, personnel, facilities management, and finance. He also facilitates a men’s group on Thursday mornings.  As God has shown Himself faithful in the details of Steve’s heart and life, he has become a lover of the Old Testament and of seeing how it points to the God-Man, Jesus, revealed in the New Testament. Steve sees life without grace, abundant and overflowing, as life not worth living... even in a place as beautiful as central Virginia.

Paul Parmiter

Deacon

Paul Parmiter has been attending Grace since 2005 and became a deacon in 2014. He and his wife and best friend Patty have been married over 25 years, and they have two beautiful daughters, Amanda and Madison, and a Scottish Terrier named Maggie. Paul enjoys reading, working in the yard, woodworking, following the Browns, Dodgers, and Virginia Tech football, and spending time with his family. As a member and small group leader at GCC, he has seen God’s mighty and faithful work in his life and in the lives of his friends and family. Paul is both humbled and extremely thankful for the Body of Christ, particularly how it is revealed at GCC.

Randy Sawyer

Deacon

Randy has been a deacon at Grace since 2004, and has attended Grace since 1999. He and his wife Karen have been married over 25 years, and they have two children, Jake and Libby. Being on the diaconate has allowed him to serve in a capacity that has pushed him into uncomfortable and unfamiliar territory, which God always uses to bring about his growth. He is also involved with the youth ministry, another challenging yet rewarding endeavor. In his spare time, Randy enjoys listening to all types of music, watching and over-analyzing movies, and sitting on his deck, rocking in his chair.

Scott Morgan

Deacon Assistant

Scott has been a deacon assistant at Grace since 2016, and has attended Grace since 2012. He and his beautiful wife and best friend, Shannon, have been married almost 20 years. They have three amazing children; Courtney, Blake and Chase. Scott has also served on the First Impressions team, both as an usher and on the coffee team. In his spare time, Scott enjoys vacationing with his family, playing and coaching volleyball, working in the yard and supporting the Cowboys, Dodgers and UVA Cavaliers. Scott continues to be amazed at God’s beauty in the everyday and His continuing influence in people’s lives.

Fleming Straughan

Deacon Assistant

Fleming has been a part of Grace since its inception as a church plant. He enjoys hiking, biking, woodworking, and being outdoors. Fleming and his wife Peggy have seen seen God's mighty hand move through their relationships with many missionaries. God has used Fleming's willingness to serve and passion for spreading the gospel to put together GCC's missions committee. He has seen how much we can receive when we give, and he is humbled at how God uses broken people to bring him glory.
