Word of the Week: Plan

Hi, gang!  I hope you had the merriest possible Christmas.  Our families at GCC have a wide range of experiences at Christmas, from joyous family Christmas full of people, to reminders of grief and loss, to concern for family members deployed overseas and separated from spouses.  Ours was blessed and fairly quiet except for a short trip to Baltimore, from which I am recovering today.

One thing many people do as a New Year’s resolution is plan to read the Bible.  This link is for the Discipleship Reading Bible Plan.  I love this plan because I can miss about five days a month.  Frankly I read some passages more closely, and other passages in a more rapid manner.  I like to focus on a few verses that pop out at me and consider them and pray about them.  There are tons of simple and easy ways to get started.  This one has worked for me and keeps me seeing the whole picture every year.  I like it, but your experience may vary from mine.

Here is another simple plan: one psalm per day, one proverb per day, one Old Testament chapter per day (starting in Genesis), and one New Testament chapter per day.  A modification is to do the first two, and just read a second in your study Bible from the Old and the New.  They usually have the passages divided up in easy reading sections.

Remember what we said Sunday - sometimes a 10% change can make a 30% difference!  Find something that works and stick to it the best you can.  Don’t allow guilt to stop you from picking it up again when you stop.

In Him,

Don
