Word of the Week

Word of the week:  Unshaken

Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever.

As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds his people both now and forevermore. (Psalm 125:1-2 NIV)

“Which cannot be shaken.” I’m struck by those words this morning.  Those who trust in the LORD cannot be shaken.  That doesn’t seem to be our experience.  We trust in the LORD and yet are shaken up.

Right now the Christmas season is shaking some of you up.  It’s a stressful season.  I have two pastor friends undergoing treatment for cancer.  Sometimes they seem pretty shaken.  I feel sometimes that I am easily shaken by inconsequential things.  I overreact or over respond to some challenges.

This verse can produce the thing it talks about.  When I’m shaking, I try to think, “Am I trusting in God?” Some of the things that come in life shake us up pretty badly. Remember that in Christ we are ultimately "unshaken”.  The Lord is going to work through my faith to settle me down, steady my mind, and quiet my soul. I want to stay tight with Him so that His steadiness becomes mine.

Trust in the LORD makes me unshaken and unshakeable, because He is the unshakeable one.

In Him,

Don
