Word of the Week

Word of the week: Game Day

I strongly dislike pre-season NFL football. The biggest reason is that sometimes the best players get injured for a meaningless game. So, before the first real game, a team’s season is compromised. The pre-season is long, so it makes the game day of the first real game that much more special. Finally, after the long off-season and the four meaningless games of the pre-season, it’s game day.

Summer has felt like the long off-season at church. I’ve missed seeing many of you, and some Sundays when you’ve been at Grace I’ve been gone. Of course, we’ve had real worship that counted all summer, but fewer of us enjoyed it together at the same time.  So, this Sunday, August 26th feels a little bit like that game day feeling. A group of us added in some chairs getting ready for a larger crowd. Barbara has her team ready to disciple our children in children’s church and Foundations. Rich Brown is excited to start youth Foundations, Crossroads and small groups. Tom is getting ready for the kick off of adult Foundations, AFTER the 9:30 worship. I’m stoked, excited, and anticipating “game day.” We will worship in a fuller room, and have a chance to grow in our knowledge of Christ. And what we do on Sundays and all through week - it counts forever. If a child or youth becomes a Christ follower for life, it counts longer than any Super Bowl championship. If an adult believer really finds their place and grows, it counts forever. And if a guest takes their time, considers the claims of Christ, and takes up their cross, it counts forever.

So, would you pray for our church this fall? Such an important opportunity for gospel ministry is in front of us. Pray with me…as one of my mentors once said, “Right now counts forever!”

In Hm,

Don
