Word of the Week

Word of the week: Friends

Recently I’ve been thinking about the challenge of friendship, especially for men.  As a man, it seems like many women do friendship better than we do, though I’m sure there are many exceptions.  It seems like as a man we experience both a deep desire for true friendship and brotherhood, and an even stronger fear of being truly known.  Maybe we won’t be as impressive to others after they get to know us?  What will they do with the ugly pieces of our lives?  What if they REALLY get to know us?

Whether you are a man or a woman, consider your friendships.  Are there are few treasured friends who know you in a “non compartmentalized” way?  You’ve let them all the way in!  What obstacles do you face?  Consider how the freedom of Jesus’ love, thoroughly understood, frees us up for deeper relationships.  Our God is a relational God.  He is one God, but with three intimate persons.  He created us for a communion of spirits with others as well.  What’s in the way?  Who can pray with you specifically about this issue?

In Him,

Don
