Word of the Week

Wow!  It’s a word that signifies amazement. Sometimes it is a negative word, as in “Wow, I can’t believe you said that to your friend - what were you thinking?” For me it is often a word that signifies my joyous amazement at something. Last weekend was full of “wow” for me. I’d been gone for some weeks with General Assembly and two weeks of vacation. Saturday and Sunday ended up being days of “wow” for me.

Saturday’s Holy Smokes BBQ brought record numbers to a GCC church-wide event. Well over 150 people were present for fun, games, and food. You guys knocked it out of the park on inviting guests to the event! At one point there were four games of corn hole going on while several games of volleyball were also being held. Kids were playing games and jumping in the bounce house. It was a joyous “wow” moment for me. I talked to people of all ages who enjoyed what felt like a giant family party. I will practice my corn hole game, but I also hope several Bocce ball sets will appear. Why not have a giant game that goes all around the yard? Even a short but fierce rain storm couldn’t hold us down for long!

Then Sunday was a day of special beauty, as we baptized one of our young adults, worshipped the Lord together, took the Lord ’s Supper, and greeted old friends. We celebrated the ministry of Stacey Powdrell among us and finished the day with cupcakes.Lovely!

Every now and then God fills our days with beauty and wonder. Thanks, Lord.  Wow!

In Him,

Don
