Word of the Week: Progress

A couple of years ago our elders set out to discern what kind of church God was calling Grace Community Church to be. As we seek to make disciples as Jesus commands, what values would shape us? One of the pillars that came out of that season was that we would be a church that doesn’t exist for ourselves. In order to embody that value, we set out to find tangible and ongoing ways we could serve our neighbors.

I’m happy to report we’re making progress.

One of the ways we seek to serve our community is gather people together with similar interests and gifts. Some of those teams are already in motion and others continue to form. Since May, we have had people:

-Move household items for two families
-Transport a mother and son to a doctor's appointment
-Install a handicap ramp for someone’s home
-Remove a chair lift from one family's home and install it another family's home

Additionally, we have continued collecting household goods in the foyer every Sunday morning for Greene Alliance to distribute to our neighbors in need. So far, we have collected laundry detergent, toothbrushes and toothpaste, paper towels and household cleaners, and dish soap. We’re still collecting dish soap through the end of July and in August we’ll begin collecting bar soap or household cleaners.

Want to stay in the loop? Our Outreach Coordinator, Bruce Seger, would be delighted to get you signed up. Please pray that the Lord will continue to use and grow our efforts so we might be a church that doesn’t exist for ourselves.
