Word of the Week

Word of the week: Slacker

Nobody wants to be a slacker. A slacker is lazy and unproductive. Do you find sometimes in the summer you are a slacker spiritually? Vacation is hard for me in this regard. On my recent vacation, I found myself slacking off a bit! I didn’t care for my soul as I could have. I was sporadic in my devotions and prayer, but demonstrated faithfulness in fun and relaxation. God still loves me, I’m still a son by faith, I’m still righteous. But I got out of my routines of soul care and I felt its impact. I was around a lot of beautiful aspects of God’s creation, and I missed a little of that joy. I’m glad to be back home and back into some of the practices that feed my soul. I am especially excited to be back with the body of Christ in worship this week!

Don’t be a slacker! It is good to be on vacation of course, and a real privilege if you can afford to go somewhere beautiful. Make a few smart choices to keep your soul in good shape. Awaken a few minutes early for prayer and reading of a few verses. Think about those verses through the day. End the day with the Lord’s prayer or a favorite verse. Bring a favorite devotional book and include a little reading in your mix. On Sunday, find a church nearby with an early service and go worship God with some saints. I know, I know, that’s quite a sacrifice if you are at your favorite vacation spot, and the weather is lovely.

Bless you, non-slackers!
