Word of the Week

Word of the week: HUGE

The word of the week is HUGE. That’s because the next two Sundays in June are HUGE! This Sunday is two big things all in one. Sean and Gabby Smith will be with us this Sunday as he begins his work as youth director. And, also very huge, Tom Breeden is ordained as a minister of the gospel this Sunday and formally becomes our Assistant Pastor. This is so big that there will be the appropriate dessert celebration afterwards. So, cancel all plans for everything else and come at 10:30 to witness the start of something really big at Grace. God is on the move!

But wait, the incredible largeness of things continues. Sunday, June 18th we begin our series on Ruth. The book of Ruth is so many things, but I’m impressed with the problem of suffering which the experience of Naomi presents us in chapter one. We will tackle that, and we will go through the book chapter by chapter to see how the tension of immense suffering is resolved. But WAIT! There is more! That same Sunday, Joshua Hunt will be baptized into the family of God. Some of you late service folks have met Josh. Josh has been learning and growing as a disciple, and recently met with the elders to give his Christian testimony. Shouldn’t we all get up and dance after an adult gets baptized?  It’s a pretty big deal…Jesus said:

Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance. (Luke 15:7 ESV)

God is at work among us and doing some impressive things. I wonder what’s next!

In Him,

Don
