Word of the Week: Beautiful

Recently something happened to my wife which was beautiful. She had a conversation with a family member that was stunningly beautiful. It had elements of the divine, as if Jesus was in the room, took things over and directed words to be said. Not everybody gets moments like that with loved ones.  It was moving, earth-shaking, and felt miraculous.

In the past months several things like that have happened to me to wake me up to the beauty of God.  Sometimes they seem like little things, but I recognize the strokes of a divine painter’s hands behind them. Caron’s experience was stunning, thrilling, and felt miraculous. Other things I’ve noticed have been simpler. Things like a small breakthrough, a long-awaited answer to prayer, or a stubborn person softening - these are beautiful things. Sometimes it’s my own heart softening that surprises me.

I write about it because I am often surprised by these moments. Life is hard, there are challenges, people are suffering. The next phone call might disrupt plans for the day, or might change life forever. Those things are somewhat expected. Life is hard till Jesus comes back. Beauty. I think His beauty is there all the time. I miss it too often. Sometimes he puts the divine painting right in front of my eyes, and I can’t miss it.

Are you looking for His beauty? Expecting it? We should be…

In Him,

Don
