Word of the Week: Power

Power.  When we think of the power of God, we are thinking big things.  We live among the mountains God made, full of beauty and wonder.  God’s power is obvious in the beauty of a mountain and in the crashing of waves at the sea.  This week I saw God’s power in a different way.  I heard three stories of people at Grace who are experiencing God’s power.  One is someone without a church background who shared the story of growing in faith through the influence of friends.  Another is from a visitor who shared a spiritual search - looking for more definite answers about the one true and living God.  I sought out neither story, but was awestruck and moved by both.  The third is of a member who asked for prayer for a physical healing and experienced it far beyond what was expected.  All in a weekend!  Perhaps I should call this “surprised by power”.  Really, it’s God’s power working in a surprisingly beautiful way.  I was thankful to see it.
