Word of the Week: Prayer
This past Tuesday night was memorable to me because of prayer. The elders of our church had their regular meeting, and the agenda was light. We decided to start a new practice of praying for member families at all of our regular meetings. The names have been divided in to 11 blocks (since we usually don’t meet in July). Several of the elders themselves came to the meeting with pressing needs - loss, grief, fear, troubles. So, we ended our meeting in prayer for one another, and for families in our church. Before we prayed some of the elders added things they knew were going on in these members’ lives that we could pray specifically about (a sick grandson for example). This meeting we prayed for the Buttner, Callaghan, Campbell, Carter, Chen, Cocks, Coffman and Crawford families. (Why don’t you pray for them this week too!)
All the families were prayed for. It was interesting that some of the elders prayed for the same families again. I think that the prayer awakened the fondness and concern different elders had for those families, so they wanted to add their voice to the prayer. It was a great way to end a “business” meeting, and it felt like some of the most important business was what we did at the end.
Who can you bring before the Lord in prayer today?
In Him,
Don
