Word of the Week

Word of the Week: Creativity

We witnessed a resurrection this past Sunday.  It wasn’t of a dead person, but of an old hymn.  The hymn is called “It is Finished” and at Tag’s request Karen began to look into using it.  Jimmy Wood ended up writing a new tune for this old hymn, and I know that Karen Sawyer helped him put the finishing touches on it Thursday night.  It was well-written and arranged.  The chorus was very singable and I found myself joining in. The words are a great summary of the message of Galatians.   Here they are again:

Nothing, either great or small - nothing, sinner, no.,
Jesus died and paid it all, a long time ago.

"It is finished!" yes, indeed, finished, ev'ry jot.
Sinner this is all you need, tell me, is it not?

When He, from His throne, stooped to die,
Ev'rything was fully done; hearkend to his cry!

"It is finished!" yes, indeed, finished, ev'ry jot.
Sinner this is all you need, tell me, is it not?

Weary, working, burdened one, how come you toil so?
Cease your doing; all was done, a long time ago.

"It is finished!" yes, indeed, finished, ev'ry jot.
Sinner this is all you need, tell me, is it not?

Trade toil and slavery, for rest and freedom.
Trade law and judgment, for life and pardon.
Trade fear and failure, for joy and gladness.
The night has passed, the dawn has come!

Cast your deadly "doing" down - down at Jesus' feet.
Stand in Him, in Him alone, glorious and complete.

"It is finished!" yes, indeed, finished, ev'ry jot.
Sinner this is all you need, tell me, is it not?
