Word of the Week

Word of the week: Prayer

Perhaps prayer should be the word of the week every week. Some weeks, it is more obvious than others. We look north to Washington and see great need of prayer for our leaders, that they all would have a heart of wisdom and would humble themselves before God. This humility would help them come together to lead our nation. Many are troubled by the division they experience these days. We have a recourse, a power we can seek, through our great High Priest, Jesus Christ.

Last week we received some bad news. Peggy Straughan, a founding member of Grace, learned that she has advanced ovarian cancer. Far be it from me to try to explain any of the medical details for you.  Here is what you need to know: Peggy and Fleming are in the fight of their lives! They need prayer for healing, wisdom, strength, grace. Of course, they will need other kinds of support. Some of you may not even know them very well. We join the battle in prayer whoever we are! There are others who have undiagnosed illness, or are fighting chronic health issues, or are facing marital strife. Do you know them? Do you know their names? Persist in prayer with and for them.

Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit.

(James 5:16-18 ESV)
