Prayer and Supplication

Have you ever felt anxious? Like feeling very worried about something or someone? I have been there. It’s this place where you feel helpless and don’t know what to do, but you really want something to happen, so you keep trying until you realize you can’t do anything without the Lord.

Thankfully we are called in Bible to make these requests to the one who controls everything and as is eager to hear from us. Phil 4:4-7 says:

“Rejoice in the Lord always; again, I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

As we close our blog series on prayer in the form of A.C.T.S., we will we touch on the S which stands for supplication. Webster Dictionary describes supplication as the action of asking or begging for something earnestly or humbly. God has given us a formula to live a life that can be filled with victories over worries and can bring peace that is beyond understanding. This call is not to just pray when things are going wrong but to pray all the time. Make sure to read carefully as this verse does say to make requests thankfully. I love how John Piper explains this in one of his articles on prayer: “Making requests thankfully means that we will be content and thankful with whatever God wisely and lovingly gives us. And we know that he will hear our prayer and wisely and lovingly give us what's best for us.”

Prayer has power that we far too often forget, but this week pray your requests to God with boldness. Don’t be afraid to share big prayers with God. I promise you He can handle them. Pray this week with a thankful heart knowing that whatever the outcome of the situation you are praying about, God is in full control. Grace family, let’s be a church that makes our requests known to God, not just in the good times but also in the bad! Have a great week!
